Exam Preparation Resources

Euclid Lecture Notes

The First Euclid Lecture Notes Have Arrived

This set of lecture notes is currently the first dedicated teaching material specifically written for the Euclid Competition.

Targeted Explanations for Filling Knowledge Gaps

The textbook caters to both students with average mathematical ability and those who are more advanced, meeting their different needs during competition preparation.

Students with average ability can strengthen their foundational knowledge and increase their chances of earning an award, while more advanced students can deepen their understanding of extended, more difficult topics and better tackle the final two challenging problems.

Based on Official Requirements + Instructor Experience

For the basic knowledge sections of each chapter, we have closely followed the official competition requirements for each topic, providing standardized explanations and summaries of the necessary formulas and conclusions.

For the more advanced and difficult topics, we have drawn on the instructors’ extensive experience in teaching and researching mathematical competitions, combined with a targeted analysis of the Euclid Competition’s unique characteristics, to organize and expand the content in a clear and practical way.

The Canadian Senior Mathematics Contest (CSMC) and the Euclid Contest are both high school mathematics competitions organized by CEMC. The mathematical background required for these two contests is similar, so these preparation materials can be used for either competition.

We recommend that you first read some of the preparation advice documents. They will provide you with important suggestions as you prepare for and write these two contests.

These preparation materials cover eight main topic areas. For each topic, there is a toolkit that outlines ideas important for solving problems in that area. We provide sample problems with complete solutions, as well as problem sets for you to try on your own. Solutions to these problem sets are published separately.

The topics are not posted in any particular order. Contest problems often interweave different topics, so you may encounter a problem in one topic that uses ideas from another. These toolkits are only brief summaries of some useful results in each topic area; the results are not proven or explained here. For more explanation of the results, you may need to consult the CEMC courseware.
