Euclid 2027 Download-Only Question Booklet: What Test Centres Should Confirm Before Contest Week

Starting with the 2027 contest, CEMC will not ship Euclid question booklets to schools. Supervisors must download and print them from the Contest Material Repository roughly one day before the contest date in their timezone. Other paper materials still arrive by post, and completed scripts still return to Waterloo for marking. If your centre has relied on a mailed booklet in past years, the logistics have changed and require a new step in your preparation.

What Changed: The Download-Only Shift for Question Booklets

CEMC’s official Euclid contest page now carries a clearly marked NEW notice under the “Contest shipping” heading: the contest question booklet will not be shipped to schools. Instead, educators access it through the Contest Material Repository and print copies locally. The window opens roughly one day before the contest day in the centre’s timezone, giving supervisors just enough lead time to print without exposing questions prematurely.

This is an administrative change, not a format change. The contest itself remains ten questions, a mix of final-answer and full-solution items, written on paper in 2.5 hours and scored out of 100. Some calculators are still permitted. What differs is purely the delivery mechanism for the question paper. Centres that previously opened a sealed envelope from Canada Post or a courier now need a working printer, repository credentials, and a secure storage plan for the freshly printed booklets.

For centres outside North and South America—where the contest falls on Wednesday, 7 April 2027—the download window will open around Tuesday, 6 April, adjusted for local timezone. North and South American centres write on Tuesday, 6 April, so their download window opens around Monday, 5 April.

The 2027 Timeline: Ordering, Download, Contest Day, Return

Understanding the sequence helps supervisors plan backwards from contest morning. The official dates published by CEMC are:

  • Ordering deadline: Thursday, 11 March 2027
  • Contest date (North & South America): Tuesday, 6 April 2027
  • Contest date (outside the Americas): Wednesday, 7 April 2027
  • Download window: roughly one day before the local contest date
  • Results available: four to six weeks after the contest date, via the Contest Supervisor Portal

The ordering deadline in mid-March is the last chance to register participants and pay fees ($18.00 per participant, plus a $5.00 processing fee per order and applicable shipping charges). After that date, no new orders are accepted and CEMC does not offer refunds, returns, or cancellations. Supervisors should confirm their order well before 11 March so that the shipped materials—Student Information Forms, Solution Booklets where applicable—arrive with time to spare.

What Still Arrives by Post and What You Print Yourself

The download-only change applies specifically to the question booklet. CEMC confirms that all other paper materials continue to be shipped to the school. The distinction matters because supervisors must not assume the entire contest packet is now digital, nor should they expect the question paper in the postal delivery.

Material Delivery method (2027) When available
Contest question booklet Download & print (Contest Material Repository) ~1 day before local contest date
Student Information Forms Shipped by post/courier After ordering, before contest
Solution Booklets (as applicable) Shipped by post/courier After ordering, before contest
Completed scripts (post-contest) School arranges return shipping to CEMC After contest day

Supervisors should verify that the shipped materials arrive at least a week before contest day so there is time to check quantities against the participant list. If a shipment is delayed or incomplete, contacting CEMC promptly is essential.

Test Centre Preparation: A Practical Checklist Before the Download Window

Because the download window is short—roughly twenty-four hours—centres cannot afford to troubleshoot access or printer problems on the morning before the contest. The following preparations should be completed in the weeks leading up to April:

  1. Confirm Contest Material Repository access. The supervising educator should log in to the CEMC Contest Supervisor Portal well before April to verify credentials, bookmark the repository section, and confirm that the school’s account is active. If login issues arise, there is time to resolve them.
  2. Test printing capacity. Each participant needs a full question booklet. For a centre with, say, 40 candidates, that is 40 copies of a multi-page document. Confirm that the printer has sufficient toner, paper, and speed. A backup printer or access to a school print room reduces risk.
  3. Plan secure storage. Once printed, the question booklets must be kept sealed and inaccessible to students until the contest begins. A locked cabinet in the supervisor’s office is the standard approach. CEMC expects the contest to be administered as close to the start of the school day as possible in the centre’s timezone.
  4. Prepare Student Information Forms in advance. These arrive by post. Distribute them to students ahead of time so that on contest morning, administrative time is minimised and the 2.5-hour writing period starts promptly.
  5. Arrange return shipping. CEMC states that each school is independently responsible for arranging and paying for the return of completed contests. A courier service is recommended to ensure materials arrive safely and in good condition for marking. Have the courier booking or shipping labels ready before contest day so that materials can be dispatched the same day or the next morning.

After the Contest: Returning All Materials in One Package

CEMC’s instructions are explicit: once the contest has been written, all contest materials should be returned to the CEMC in one package for marking. This includes the completed answer scripts and any associated paperwork. The school bears the cost and logistical responsibility for this return shipment.

Practical points for supervisors:

  • Use a trackable courier service. CEMC recommends a courier to ensure materials arrive safely and in good condition.
  • Package everything together. Do not split scripts across multiple parcels.
  • Dispatch promptly. Delays risk materials arriving too late for inclusion in final results, which would render a participant’s contest unofficial.
  • Retain the tracking number until results appear in the Contest Supervisor Portal (four to six weeks after contest day).

For centres outside Canada, the shipping cost for returning materials is separate from the initial order’s shipping fee (15% of the contest order total, minimum $10.00). Budget for both legs of the journey when calculating the true per-student cost beyond the $18.00 contest fee.

A Candidate’s Confirmation Checklist to Raise With Their Supervisor

Students cannot order the contest individually—participation flows through the school or test centre. If you are a candidate, the following questions are worth raising with your supervising teacher before contest week, particularly if your school is new to administering the Euclid:

  1. Has the school placed its order before the 11 March 2027 deadline?
  2. Who holds the Contest Supervisor Portal credentials, and have they confirmed repository access?
  3. Is there a printing plan for the question booklet on the day before the contest?
  4. Where will printed booklets be stored securely overnight?
  5. Has the school arranged return courier shipping for completed scripts?

If your school does not offer the Euclid, the registration structure does not permit individual sign-up. Our earlier guide on what to do if your school does not offer the contest covers alternative arrangements. For a broader view of key dates and the ordering process, see the 2027 Euclid registration guide. And if you want to gauge your mathematical readiness well before April, the 60-minute September self-test with marking key gives you a structured diagnostic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my school receive the Euclid 2027 question booklet by post?

Supervisors must download and print it from the Contest Material Repository roughly one day before the contest date in their timezone. Other materials such as Student Information Forms and Solution Booklets are still shipped.

When exactly does the download window open?
CEMC states the booklet becomes available roughly one day before contest day in the centre’s timezone. For centres outside North and South America the contest is Wednesday, 7 April 2027, so the download window is expected to open around Tuesday, 6 April. For centres in the Americas, contest day is Tuesday, 6 April, so the window opens around Monday, 5 April. Supervisors should monitor the Contest Material Repository for the precise release.

Do we still need to send completed scripts back to CEMC after the contest?
Yes. All contest materials must be returned to CEMC in one package for marking. The school arranges and pays for this return shipping independently. CEMC recommends using a courier to ensure materials arrive safely and in good condition.
